Hardstyle, emotion and connection

Published

Hardwave Alerts is not only about releases, news and free downloads.

It is also about the people who feel this music.

For this Community Voice feature, Sofia from Ukraine shares her perspective as a hardstyle listener — about discovering the sound, emotion, difficult times and the meaning of connection through music.

1. How would you introduce yourself to Hardwave Alerts readers?

My name is Sofia, and you can know me as Lemoneda.

2. How did you first discover hardstyle?

I first discovered hardstyle through the Dewstate page, and I really liked it.

It was something new for me, because I had never listened to this kind of music before.

Nowadays, I listen to it more and more.

3. What does hardstyle mean to you personally?

It gives me a lot of energy.

When I listen to hardstyle, I feel calmer, and it helps me get my strength back.

4. Hardstyle can be emotional, powerful, aggressive and uplifting at the same time. What side of the music connects with you the most?

The side I connect with the most is powerful music.

Of course, I also like and listen to other sides of hardstyle, especially the emotional side.

Aggressive sounds can also be very interesting, but I prefer the powerful side.

5. Has hardstyle helped you emotionally during difficult times?

Yes, of course.

When I feel tired and exhausted, listening to this music makes me feel truly happy.

I can move, feel free and not hide my true feelings.

Hardstyle can also take my mind away from problems and make things feel easier.

6. Because of the current international situation, many people experience music, community and international connections differently than before. From your personal perspective as a listener from Ukraine, has this changed how you see the hard dance scene or the international hardstyle community?

From my perspective, there are changes because the hard dance scene and the international community have many fans and artists.

New people come into the scene, new names appear, and later they become more popular.

That makes the scene feel alive and connected.

7. Do you feel that hardstyle and hard dance can still connect people across countries, even when the world feels divided?

Of course.

I think it is a really good thing when people and countries are connected.

It can feel like supporting each other through music.

8. Are there any hardstyle artists or tracks that mean a lot to you personally?

I would say “State Of Mind – Paranoid”.

I am obsessed with that track.

For me, it has something magical — a special vibe and a calm feeling inside.

9. What would you like people in the international hardstyle scene to understand about listeners from Ukraine?

I would like people in the international hardstyle scene to understand that, for many listeners from Ukraine, music is more than entertainment.

It gives us hope and a sense of connection through difficult times.

It is very important for us to feel support from international communities and people in the hardstyle scene.

We really appreciate that.
